I delighted when I heard Hank Willis Thomas’ mother and stepbrother graduated from Pratt. He said that he was influenced from his mother because she was also interested in photography. At that time, she had heard that there are just three African-American photographers in the U.S.A. The fact made her take a profound interest in photography, and then she had affected him.

I am interested in his frame works. It looks like improvising editing. I heard he wanted to show the outside of the frame to viewers and his intention seemed to be that viewers were able to think the outside people. However, his recent works look like heavy to me. He focuses on human race through Winter in America, the movie, about cousin’s death, Branded, and Unbranded. In my opinion, he seems like just one of the serious observers because he treats the dark side of African-American people. His idea is eccentric. Nevertheless it was not interested to me. His theory seems like old-fashioned idea because Americans already elected Obama president, one of the African- American people.

I believe that he also treats the bright side of African-American people to be balanced. In this point of view, his earlier works is better than present works.
